Students who successfully complete the paper should be able to:

  • Learning Outcomes and Specific Attributes

    The aim of this paper is to provide knowledge of how genes interact in genomes, organisms, populations and human disease. Students will acquire understanding of molecular techniques, bioinformatic approaches, data collection, data analysis and report presentation.

    The specific attributes that successful students will acquire are:

    • The ability to describe the molecular mechanisms involved in genetic, metabolic, infectious and immunological diseases, and cancer
    • The ability to demonstrate knowledge of the molecular techniques in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease
    • the ability to apply basic research approaches to unravel the foundations of health and disease

The dates indicated for assessment items will normally be adhered to. Any changes to the dates will be made in consultation with the class at least one week prior to the original date. Satisfactory completion of the Moodle quizzes, assignments, presentations, and tests are also an essential element of the paper and irrespective of the marks you receive must be completed in order to pass the paper. Medical certificates must be presented for any test or assessment item missed.
